In a six month journey throughout Mexico, Subcomandante Insurgente Marcos of the Zapatista National Liberation Army (EZLN) plans to meet with multitude grassroots organizations and collectives for the initial stages of the Other Campaign, a proposal launched by the EZLN last year to search for a non-electorate, anti-capitalist left in Mexico. Renamed as Delegate Zero, Marcos will spend one week in each of Mexicoâ€™s 31 states and the federal district of Mexico City, consulting the bases for the next step in this struggle for national social justice.

La plaza de CoyoacÃ¡n esperÃ³ impaciente la transmisiÃ³n en vivo desde San CristÃ³bal de las Casas en donde los voceros del EZLN y el Delegado zero dirigirÃan un mensaje de arranque de La Otra CampaÃ±a. La transmisiÃ³n estaba programada para las 5 de la tarde, pero se retrasÃ³ debido a la entrada de contingentes numerosos de las bases de apoyo Zapatista a la ahora llamada "Plaza de la Resistencia" en la Ciudad Coleta. Un globo de Cantoya en forma de estrella emprendiÃ³ el vuelo desde la plaza de CoyoacÃ¡n a la caÃda de la noche mientras se terminaban de cantar el Himno Nacional y el Zapatista. La gente escuchaba y aplaudÃa emocionada la transmisiÃ³n en tiempo real del mensaje a travez de la seÃ±al de 99.1FM, frecuencia libre de San CristÃ³bal de las Casas. Durante la tarde y a la espera de la seÃ±al se sucedieron los mensajes, la lectura de la Sexta DeclaraciÃ³n, el teatro y el performance y tocÃ³ una banda de Reggae, mientras la gente se acercaba al puesto de informaciÃ³n, circulaba, regresaba y se renovaba bajo la dinÃ¡mica caracterÃstica de la Plaza de CoyoacÃ¡n en un fin de semana, el primero del aÃ±o 2006, el que marca el 12avo Aniversario de la RebeliÃ³n Zapatista y el inicio de La Otra CampaÃ±a Para los medios libres fue una tarde intensa de calibraciÃ³n de las seÃ±ales, de comunicaciÃ³n con quienes enviaban su transmisiÃ³n desde el sitio en Chiapas, con el sonido que deberÃ¡ ser mejor en otras ocasiones y sin los cortes de la seÃ±al de internet que generaban el nerviosismo de la espera en el silencio. Sin embargo, tambiÃ©n fue una tarde intensa para informar a las personas que constantemente preguntaban como poder escuchar lo que que sucede en La Otra CampaÃ±a y si era cierto que se podÃa realizar una transmisiÃ³n de ese tipo. Poco a poco se conoce cada vez mas el acceso a los medios libres y la gente se acerca a quienes los llevan a cabo para conocer de manera directa en que consiste lo llamado diferente en el trabajo que realizan.

On September 9th, Vinny and I arrived in Houston, Texas along with Blank from Portland, Oregon to provide aid in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The three of us headed to Houston to help with with independent media, including a low power fm radio station which was being organized for the Astrodome. Upon our arrival in Houston, we learned that the Astrodome emergency radio station was again being blocked from broadcasting information to survivors of Hurricane Katrina.

We went to the Astrodome and spoke with people who were willing to speak with us. We listened to their experiences in the past and at the Astrodome. Please visit the following links for audio, photos and written reports published by Vinny, Blank and I.

This weekend, Indymedia Chiapas
is producing a radio stream from the last in a series of meetings the
EZLN has been holding with civil society over the past two months. Listen to the raw stream from Chiapas, along with commentary and music from Mexico City, Sept. 16th thru Sept. 18th.

Called by the Zapatista Army of National Liberation, thousands have
been attending a series of meetings in Chiapas, including collectives,
artistic groups and NGO's. Presentations have ranged from dry readings
to hip-hop performances and lottery games.
